Brad Kohler Files
For State Senate
Former UFC & MMA Fighter, Author, Inventor & Small Business Owner Makes Election Bid Official BROOKLYN PARK, MN – Brad Kohler, most widely known as a former UFC heavyweight professional fighter and three-time MMA World Champion, filed as a Republican candidate for State Senate in District 38. After his retirement from professional fighting Kohler has been recognized as an author, inventor, small business owner and mentor. Kohler submitted the necessary paperwork to appear on the August 9 primary election ballot and November 8 general election ballot with the Secretary of State’s office on Tuesday, the first day of candidate filings. “I'm running for State Senate because our elected officials have failed us, our children, our senior citizens, and our small business owners over the last several years with heavy-handed mandates, closures and ineffective leadership. Minnesota has a bright future ahead if we elect candidates who bring real life experience to the legislature and will boldly advocate for change that benefits working class families,” Kohler stated. “I'm passionate about helping others,” Kohler said. “Although I have seen much success, I have also experienced many challenges. I grew up in a home with two alcoholic parents who were both physically and mentally abusive; I’ve been broke, nearly lost my life in an ultralight plan crash, became addicted to painkillers, spent time in a workhouse as a result of plea-bargaining to a felony, and I’ve been homeless and in despair." "While these events took place over 15 years ago, they were the pivotal turning point solidifying my belief that God had a better plan for me. Since then, I’ve persevered through pain and hardship and have gone on to have a fulfilling, happy life. I understand life’s challenges better than most and will be a fighter and fierce advocate for those struggling to overcome similar challenges,” Kohler stated. In 2012, Kohler retired from fighting and hung up the gloves from a career that saw him crowned World Champion three times. While raising two children as a single father, Kohler invented the ComboHitter, a wall mounted boxing fitness product that he manufactured out of his garage. This boxing invention, an alternative to a heavy bag or training partner, soon became recognized by university hospitals and research centers for Parkinson's disease. Rock Steady Boxing, a nonprofit organization that works with Parkinson's patients to help slow down the progression of the disease, deemed it the safest boxing product for their patients. Kohler generously donated many ComboHitters to university hospitals in Ohio and Rock Steady Boxing Centers around the world. Kohler went on to author Prime…It Doesn’t Last Forever, a book written to inspire children, young adults and business owners to never give up on their dreams, no matter what the odds. All of the proceeds from his book go directly to charity. Additionally, he owned and operated ComboFit Gyms before the state-mandated shutdown of health and fitness businesses forced him to liquidate. “My legislative priorities are simple. Get inflation under control by attacking wasteful government spending, ensure police are properly trained and funded to keep our communities safe and promote excellence in our schools to prepare students for success,” Kohler said. “I look forward to continuing our hard-working campaign and meeting people at their doors, community gatherings, parades, athletic events and on the streets and in the neighborhoods. Most of all, I want to hear from you. Call me at 763-313-2485 or email me bradfightmn@yahoo.com with your comments, suggestions and ideas, and learn more about my campaign at www.BradKohlerForStateSenate.com,” Kohler concluded.
